HANCOCK — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Jessica Vezina are pleased to share that Hancock Elementary Students recently completed a hand-made mosaic with the help of local artist Julie Brown.
Brown, artist and parent to an HES third-grader, visited with HES students in March to teach them about the steps to make a mosaic.
The project began by students creating a unique design that was then voted on by staff and students. A total of 43 designs were received. The final design, a tree changing through the four seasons, was submitted by Grade 4 student Nora Flamino.
From Monday to Thursday, students worked to add tiles to the mural. On Friday, Brown helped with grouting.
The completed mural features the original tree design along with the HES husky mascot and other representations of the Hancock community.
The mural will be mounted outside the school’s main office for all to enjoy.
“We are thrilled to have had this opportunity to have such a talented artist and committed member of the HES community visit with our students for this special event,” said Principal Vezina. “The mural turned out beautifully, and will make an amazing addition to our school for years to come.”
