MEDFIELD — Superintendent Jeffrey Marsden and Principal Nat Vaughn are excited to share that Thomas Blake Middle School sixth-grade students held a cereal drive to support the Medfield Food Cupboard.
The cereal drive was organized by Thomas Blake Middle School sixth-grade teachers. All 11 grade six classes collected about 430boxes of cereal during the first two weeks of March. Medfield Food Cupboard President Beth Eby estimated that the monetary value of the donations amounted to about $2,500.
“I’m proud of the sixth-grade class and the Medfield community for their contributions to the cereal drive,” Principal Vaughn said. “This was an impressive outcome for the first year of the fundraiser. The students learned a lot from the experience and had fun doing it.”
While hosting the cereal drive, students learned about food security, working together to achieve a goal and altruism. At the end of the donation period, a few students were selected to set up a “cereal box domino” activity, where all of the boxes were lined up like dominoes and knocked down while the sixth-grade students were able to watch.

“What a wonderful cereal domino maze!” President Eby said. “The activity also was an amazing community service project for the Food Cupboard. The boxes of cereal have really filled our shelves and will feed our clients for months.”
