GEORGETOWN – Superintendent Margo Ferrick announces that she will host a series of four open forums, in person and via Zoom, during morning, afternoon and evening timeslots, to accommodate as many Georgetown families and residents as possible who wish to hear about and ask questions about the future of the Georgetown Public Schools.
The Georgetown Finance Committee has approved a Georgetown Public Schools budget with a 6.32 percent increase, reflecting the Town’s desire to see concrete plans to modernize the school district and maximize positive outcomes, successes, and educational excellence across all levels.
As part of that ongoing effort, Superintendent Ferrick is committed to reporting the work of the district to the community, answering questions from residents and listening to feedback.

Other communications modernization initiatives are underway. The district intends to launch a new website for the 2024-2025 school year, featuring a focus on news and events. The district also will be focusing on improving the quality and frequency of its social media posts.
School Committee Workshop and Training
In addition to these forums and ongoing communications initiatives, the Georgetown School Committee will take part in a communications workshop and training session with retired school superintendent Paul Zinni, who now works as a full-time member of the John Guilfoil Public Relations (JGPR) team.
Superintendent Ferrick previously announced that JGPR, which has worked for the Georgetown Police and Fire Departments for the past 10 years, has now been retained by the Georgetown Public Schools. JGPR is also redesigning the district website.
During the School Committee Workshop, Zinni will lead a program entitled “Coordinated Communication for School Committees.”
Whether it’s coordinated communication during a crisis or community communications during a public meeting, having and implementing an effective communications plan with fidelity is essential to any School Committee.
Topics will include:
- Communication during a crisis
- Dos and Don’ts of social media
- Setting and following meeting norms
- Cooperative communication during public meetings
- Managing public comment during public meetings
- Potential legal ramifications of doing it wrong
Date: Wednesday, April 24, from 4-6 p.m., at the Perley School, 51 North St. This will be a posted meeting.
“A deliberative approach to communications and a well-constructed district communications plan that includes all stakeholder groups will help propel the Georgetown Public Schools forward,” Superintendent Ferrick said. “I am very pleased to announce these events, with the promise of more opportunities to hear from the district and for the district to hear from our constituents.”
