Chelmsford Police Department Switches from Analog to Digital Radio Frequency

CHELMSFORD – Police Chief Colin Spence is pleased to report that the Chelmsford Police Department has completed a transition from analog to digital radio transmissions, which will improve police communication abilities across town.

Work to complete the transition was completed on March 12, when approximately 100 portable and cruiser-mounted radios were upgraded to new digital models.

The new digital radios provide improved voice quality, increased bandwidth for communications, improved coverage in all areas of town, and extended battery life for portable radios.

“The radio upgrade to digital provides better coverage throughout the whole Town of Chelmsford,” said Chief Spence. “The upgrade improves our radio communications in many of our larger brick and concrete buildings in the town. In addition, this upgrade improves our communication with the majority of the surrounding communities.”
