BURLINGTON — Chief Thomas Browne is pleased to announce that the Burlington Police Department has received state funding for a new Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) device.

Funding in the amount of $1,492 was awarded to the Burlington Police Department through the state’s FY24 AED Grant Program.

Burlington Police used the funding to purchase a new Zoll AED, which will be put into one of the department’s cruisers to assist on-shift personnel during an emergency.

Currently, all cruisers are equipped with a Zoll AED and the new device will be placed in a cruiser that does not currently have one.

“I would like to thank the Healy-Driscoll Administration for granting us this funding to help us purchase life-saving equipment,” said Chief Browne. “AED devices allow our members to better respond to our community by providing us with valuable tools to assist someone experiencing an unexpected cardiac event.”

Burlington Police received the AED on Monday, March 11, and was placed into service on Tuesday, March 12.

About FY24 AED Grant Program

More than $165,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 80 Massachusetts municipalities, public colleges and universities, and nonprofits to purchase Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) for emergency response vehicles. This program will help increase access to this lifesaving equipment during medical emergencies when every second matters.

The funds were awarded through a competitive application process conducted by the Office of Grants and Research (OGR), a state agency that is part of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). The FY24 AED Grant Program was open to all Massachusetts municipalities – with priority given to those with populations of 20,000 or less – as well as public colleges, universities, and nonprofits with emergency response vehicles.
