BEDFORD – The Facilities Information and Communication Committee has released its final video about the ongoing Public Safety Building Project, as part of its ongoing effort to fully inform voters ahead of the March 12 Town Election.
In the final video, Police Chief Dan Douidi and Fire Chief Scott Hunter discuss the critical needs within their departments, and how the proposed police station/fire substation will assist with space needs and improve response times.
“As our community expands, so does the need for police, fire, and EMS services,” Chief Hunter said in the video.
“We’ve outgrown our current space, both police and fire. The building is now too small for the employees, leading to potential risks, and safety issues, and liability concerns,” Chief Douidi said.
The Town has worked on addressing public safety space needs since 2000. The Town is moving forward with a plan for a Police station and Fire substation on South River Road, following an extensive study of Town-wide space needs. The current plan has been developed to address issues of risk, potential liability, and resident/employee health safety and welfare at the current Public Safety Complex.
Earlier videos, found here, cover the general project overview, risk and liability issues, cost and financing, and fire response times, as well as a virtual tour of police facilities.
Polls are open on Tuesday, March 12, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bedford High School.
The Town has created a separate project website, which includes an explanation of the project and timeline, important documents, and answers to Frequently Asked Questions.
