MANSFIELD – Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Principal David McGovern are pleased to announce that the Qualters Middle School Math Team competed in the MATHCOUNTS Southeast Massachusetts Chapter Competition in New Bedford on February 6.

The math competition was hosted by MATHCOUNTS, a nonprofit national organization that aims to promote mathematics in middle schools.

Twelve students completed a team round and two individual rounds of questions over 2 1/2 hours during the competition, and four students placed in the top five finalists in the competition. These students (Gia Sen, Mishel Naina, Muhi Karuppusamy and Samuel Hinton) will be advancing to the state competition at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell on March 2. Families are invited to attend.

“I’m so proud of these students who showed off their math skills during the competition,” Superintendent Teresa Murphy said. “I can’t wait to see our team bring their A-game in the state competition!”
