GLOUCESTER — Mayor Greg Verga and Fire Chief Eric Smith are pleased to report that four new firefighters have been sworn in to the Gloucester Fire Department and will begin the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy after going through local training and orientation.

Probationary Firefighter/EMTs Kyle Quinn, John Salvi-Souza, and William Lane were sworn in on Monday by Town Clerk Joanne Senos, as was Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Clay Whitley.

All four men began their local training and orientation on Monday, and will enter the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy on April 1, with an expected graduation date of June 14. All four men will work their first shift as Gloucester firefighters on June 16.

Probationary Firefighter/EMTs Quinn, Salvi-Souza and Lane will also begin paramedic training in September 2024, with their anticipated graduation date from that program coming in May 2025.

“We’re excited to have four highly qualified new recruits joining our Department,” said Chief Smith. “All four of these individuals will enter the Fire Academy later this spring, and we look forward to their graduation and to welcoming them as full- members of the Department later this year.”
