NEW LONDON — Superintendent Winifred Feneberg and Principal Stephen Paterson are pleased to announce that Kearsarge Regional Middle School successfully hosted its annual Spelling Bee, which was won by Grade 7 student Avery Gregoire.

Twelve students participated in the contest. After 14 rounds, Gregoire spelled “fettle,” which means a state of physical condition, earning him the title of 2024 Spelling Bee Champion over competitors Jade LeBoeuf (Grade 8) and Laurell Xenakis (Grade 6). Laurell won a run-off and will serve as the school’s first alternate.

Gregoire now has the opportunity to compete in the state Spelling Bee, which will be held March 30 at the Bank of New Hampshire Stage in Concord.

The top speller from this competition will represent New Hampshire in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.

“I am so proud of all of the students who participated in the Spelling Bee. Kearsarge is so excited to have Avery represent our school district in the state competition. We are all wishing him the best of luck,” Feneberg said.

The District wishes to thank teachers Dabney Geary, Mindy Robertson, and Ali Stewart for serving as judges, and teacher Dean Barker for serving as pronouncer.
