LITTLETON — Chief Matthew Pinard and Superintendent Kelly Clenchy report that the Littleton Police Department and Littleton Public Schools are investigating a threat made to Littleton schools on Tuesday evening.
Police have determined that the threat was not credible and there is no danger to students or staff.
At about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, SRO Megan Wodzinski received information regarding two messages on social media about the possibility of someone bringing a weapon to a Littleton, MA, school on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
A subsequent investigation revealed that there was no credible threat to the schools. Out of an abundance of caution, Littleton Police stationed a cruiser at each school as the students arrived for the day on Wednesday and for some time afterward.
“Unfortunately, these kinds of anonymous threats on social media have become far too common nationally, but we continue to take them very seriously and respond to them in a consistent manner,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Patterson.
“The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance, and we are grateful to the Littleton Police Department for their diligence and their swift response,” said Superintendent Clenchy. “We greatly value our strong and ongoing partnership, which ensured our students, faculty, and staff could remain safe today.”
Counseling services will be made available at all Littleton schools for students who may have heard about this incident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Littleton Police Department and Littleton Public Schools.
