NEWBURYPORT — Mayor Sean R. Reardon is pleased to invite community members to join the Newburyport Public Art Committee, which is tasked with studying the city’s needs, possibilities and resources for public art.
The Public Art Committee, formed last year as part of the city’s new Public Art Policy, is responsible for studying and recommending to the City Council and Mayor potential locations and ideas for public art installations as the city seeks to expand its collection of public art works.
The committee meets twice per year to hear proposals for public art and to review, discuss and vote on matters regarding the city’s public art collection.
The committee is made up of seven members, including two members of the Newburyport Cultural Council, two residents, a local artist, a member of the Parks Commission and a city staff member.
The seats for two local residents and a local artist remain unfilled, and the city is seeking nominations for those seats on the board. Board members may serve for up to three years.
“We are thrilled to have a new group to help us enhance Newburyport’s public art and make our city even more beautiful,” said Mayor Reardon. “Now that we have this strong public art policy in place, we need engaged and enthusiastic residents who can help us carry out this mission.”
Anyone interested in applying should submit a resume and letter of interest to Christine Jackson in the Mayor’s Office. Jackson can be reached at: cjackson@cityofnewburyport.com.
