BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou announces that Bourne Intermediate School Principal Jane Norton will retire at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year following a 31-year career with Bourne Public Schools.

“Mrs. Norton is a beloved educator who keeps the best interests of children at the heart of all that she does,” said Superintendent Quinlan-Zhou. “She exudes Canalman pride and her legacy and impact will be felt for generations.”

Principal Norton is a proud Bourne High School graduate who began her career in Bourne Public Schools in 1993. She began as a High School Physical Education teacher, then as a Health teacher at Bourne Middle School. Mrs. Norton served as Principal at Peebles Elementary School, before moving to her most recent role at the Intermediate School in 2019.

During her career in Bourne, Principal Norton embraced a wide array of building, grade, administrative assignments and leadership roles that have included working at all school levels.

Such roles included Director of Health and Wellness for Grades K-12, Administrator for the BPS Mentor/Mentee Program and the President of the Southeast Middle School Alliance. Principal Norton also served as Vice President and Treasurer/Membership Chair for the Bourne Educators Association.

Principal Norton’s participation on the Bourne Middle School Opening Working Transition Committee helped inform her work on the Bourne Intermediate School project. Principal Norton served on and/or facilitated several committees which focused on the educational vision, design, and construction for the new school which opened in 2019. Since then, Principal Norton has worked to implement curricular offerings, enrichment opportunities and after school programs that develop the whole child and promote the district’s B2B core values.

Principal Norton will retire at the conclusion of the school year.

The superintendent’s office will begin the search for a principal for the Bourne Intermediate School. Staff and caregivers will be active participants during candidate site visits in the search process. A search committee will also be established to review resumes and interview applicants, as well as solicit input from staff, parents and stakeholders that will help guide the District toward hiring the candidate who aligns best with the vision and goals of the school community.

Information regarding the search and opportunities for community participation will be shared as it becomes available.
