CANTON — Town Administrator Charles Doody, Town Planner TJ Torres and Housing Coordinator Kevin Shea announce that the Town of Canton will hold a public forum this week to discuss the state’s MBTA Communities Multi-Family Zoning Requirements.
WHEN:
Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.
WHERE:
Salah Meeting Room, Canton Town Hall, 801 Washington St.
WHAT:
Community members are encouraged to attend a public forum on Wednesday, Jan. 24 to learn more about the state’s MBTA Communities Multi-Family Zoning Requirements.
The forum will be led by Town Planner Torres and Housing Coordinator Shea who will present on the zoning requirements and how Canton is proposing compliance. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
As of the passing of the Economic Bond Bill, signed by Gov. Charlie Baker in January 2021, 177 MBTA communities are subject to the requirements of Section 3A of the Zoning Act, including Canton.
The purpose of Section 3A is to encourage the production of multi-family housing by requiring MBTA communities to adopt zoning districts where multi-family housing can be built without a Special Permit or Variance, and that meet other requirements outlined in the statute. The law does allow for municipalities to require a limited Site Plan Review process.
