Newport Police Department Arrests Woman After Domestic Incident

NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested and charged a Newport woman following an incident on Sunday night. 

LORETTA SAVAGE, AGE 77, OF NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:

  • 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault

On Sunday, Jan. 7, at approximately 9:23 p.m., Newport Police were notified of an incident in which SAVAGE had experienced a mental health crisis and allegedly pointed a firearm at a family member.

Newport Police responded to SAVAGE’s home in Newport to speak with her about the incident. SAVAGE confirmed to police that she had pointed a firearm at her family member. Police located and seized a loaded .22 caliber handgun from the residence. 

SAVAGE was transported to North Country Hospital for evaluation and was subsequently arrested by Newport Police.

SAVAGE was arraigned on Monday, Jan. 8 at Orleans Superior Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
