CARVER — Chief Marc Duphily and Town Administrator Robert Fennessy would like to share that Sgt. Joseph Ritz is retiring from the Carver Police department after serving for 30 years.
Sgt. Ritz was recognized for his longtime law enforcement career at the Town’s Select Board meeting on Dec. 19.
“Sgt. Ritz’s unwavering commitment and years of service have positively impacted all of us at the department and in the Carver community,” said Chief Duphily. “We thank him for his time on the force and wish him all the best as he begins his well-deserved retirement.”
Ritz began his career with the Carver Police Department in 1993 as a Special Police Officer. During this time he also worked for the Town of Plymouth as the assistant Harbor Master, before becoming the Plymouth Harbor Master.
In 2005, Ritz transitioned to become a full-time Carver Police officer, taking on many different roles within the department. He instructed other officers on Stop Stick procedures in 2007 and became the department’s Medical Control officer in 2009. Ritz also trained other officers to use the department’s police boat.
Ritz was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2010. In his most recent role as sergeant, he supervised officers on various shifts and served as the evening Shift Commander.
In addition to his duties as sergeant, Sgt. Ritz served as the Union Vice-President assisting with many community service events that the union and department carry out each year, including Carver Night Out and the Christmas Toy Drive. Sgt. Ritz plans to continue to assist the community as a Special Police Officer in his retirement.
