MARBLEHEAD — Interim Superintendent Theresa McGuinness and Acting Principal Julia Ferreira are pleased to share that student leaders at Marblehead Veterans Middle School recently led a successful toy drive that will help brighten the Christmas season for area children.

Efforts by the student leadership group, the Cornerstones Club, led to the collection of more than 100 toys from Middle School students and their families within a few days. Toys were donated at a local Toys for Tots collection center.

Cornerstone stresses service, community, spirit, and fundraising, and offers seventh- and eighth-grade students the opportunity to build leadership and interpersonal skills. Cornerstones Club students have a long history of helping those in need. Student fundraisers have assisted victims and families affected by the Boston Marathon bombing and tsunamis.

“It is wonderful to see our students understand that there are things bigger than themselves, and leading with kindness and empathy,” Acting Principal Ferreira said.

Interim Superintendent McGuinness and Acting Principal Ferreira recognize Cornerstones Club Quarter 2 Advisory Board members Clare Bush, Cate Cole, Patsy Jellison, Laurel Kearney, Jack Manganis and Eleanor Morgan for their commitment

Interim Superintendent McGuinness and Acting Principal Ferreira also wish to thank Cornerstones Club advisors Jennifer Vautour and Shannon Abel for their guidance and support.
