UXBRIDGE — Superintendent Michael Baldassarre and Taft Early Learning Center Principal Mark LaBossiere are pleased to share that Taft second-grade students recently participated in the Wreaths Across America initiative to honor veterans.
On Wednesday, Dec. 13, second-grade students lined up in front of the Taft school entrance waving small American Flags as police and fire escorted a truck filled with wreaths to honor Uxbridge veterans, made its way around the school parking lot.
Participating students interacted with volunteers from the truck and were able to touch wreaths while learning about the importance of the Wreaths Across America initiative.
After departing from Taft Early Learning Center, the truck went on to deliver 74 boxes of wreaths, which were placed at 1,000 veterans’ gravesites at St. Mary’s cemetery on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
In return, Taft second-graders colored paper wreaths to be sent to local veterans and active military service members.
“We are so thrilled our students were able to experience this special event,” said Principal LaBossiere. “Our hope is that students recognize and learn about the meaning behind the wreaths and the value of honoring those who serve our country and community.”
Uxbridge Select Board Member John Wise was in attendance and added, “Watching all the children waving American Flags and chanting ‘USA’ was so wonderful to see. It made me proud of Uxbridge and our school District.”
