Sippican Festival Band Performs at New Bedford’s AHA! Night

Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Sippican Elementary School Principal Marla Brown are pleased to share that the Sippican Festival Band performed at the AHA! Night community event in New Bedford on Thursday.

MARION — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Sippican Elementary School Principal Marla Brown are pleased to share that the Sippican Festival Band performed at the AHA! Night community event in New Bedford on Thursday.

A group of 70 fifth- and sixth-grade students in the Sippican Festival Band, led by Sippican Instrumental Music Teacher Hannah Moore, performed in the Custom House Square during the event. They played several holiday tunes, including “Christmas Chimes,” “Hanukkah Is Here!,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Sleigh Ride.”

The band also performed two Marches: “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “Marching Marines.”

“Congratulations to our Sippican Festival Band on a wonderful and festive performance,” Principal Brown said. “We are so proud of our students for the hard work they put into preparing for community events and thank everyone who stopped by to watch the performance.”

The Sippican Festival Band meets weekly and takes on extra challenges in music and performance beyond the standard band instruction. The Festival Band performs at a variety of school and community functions, including the Music in the Parks Festival in the spring.

AHA! Night takes place on the second Thursday of the month. The event encourages artistic expression and offers a meeting place for over 60 community partners representing New Bedford’s creative, cultural and business communities. Last night’s event was a “Starry Night” theme and offered special holiday activities and entertainment.

“Thank you to AHA! Night for including our Sippican Festival Band in the event,” Superintendent Nelson said. “We appreciate the community’s support of our students and of music education.”
