NEWBURYPORT — The City of Newburyport informs residents, employees, and visitors that the City Council passed a new ordinance restricting “shuffling” when parking in City lots and streets.
The Ordinance states that changing the parked position of a vehicle from one parking space within a municipal parking lot or the same block on either side of the street or roadway shall be considered one continuous time period as designated by related signs.
This means that if you move your car only one space, or otherwise stay in the same lot or block, the time limit still applies and you may be subject to tickets for exceeding time limits.
This policy was recommended in past parking studies and will make more spaces available for a wider variety of parking users.
Those who have questions about the policy or are looking for more information about the City’s parking program, please visit the City Clerk’s website here.
