BOURNE —Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou and Principal Christine Borning are proud to share that eighth-grade student Alexis Buttrick has been selected as Bourne Middle School’s Project 351 Ambassador for this school year.
Buttrick will work with Project 351, a non-profit organization that empowers a youth-led movement for change powered by an eighth-grade student representing every city and town in Massachusetts. Buttrick was selected among all grade eight students by her teachers and administrators.
Over her yearlong term, Buttrick’s work as an ambassador will include developing the skills and confidence to mobilize schools and communities in four statewide service campaigns. Ambassadors take part in Spring Service benefitting Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization that provides resources such as school supplies and clothing to homeless and low-income children. They also take part in the Hope & Gratitude Walk benefitting nonprofits selected by ambassadors, the 9/11 Tribute Service with the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, and Fall Service, which seeks to eradicate hunger through the support of hundreds of hometown food pantries.
“She possesses an unwavering commitment to excellence, showcasing an impressive ability to grasp complex concepts and demonstrate a depth of understanding that goes beyond the curriculum,” said Spanish Teacher Mariela Gomez.
In addition to excelling academically, Buttrick is involved in many activities at Bourne Middle School. She plays on the softball team, is a member of the peer leadership club and she participated in the school musical production of Willy Wonka.
At the close of their service year, ambassadors are invited to continue to hone their skills and lead communities as a member of the Alumni Organization.
“Leadership to me is all about inspiring and motivating others to complete objectives,” said Buttrick. “I have consistently uplifted and encouraged others on my sport teams, at school, and at home. Leaders should be creating a comfortable and inclusive environment for not only others to strive in, but also for themselves.”
“Alexis was selected for Project 351 based on her exceptional skills, demonstrated commitment, and proven ability to inspire and motivate others,” said Grade 6 Teacher Taylor Murkland.
