HAMPTON — Superintendent Meredith Nadeau and Principal William McGowan share that the Freshman Seminar expo returned at Winnacunnet High School after a three-year absence.
Incoming Winnacunnet students take part in Project Discover, a unit that assists students in creating a focus on education and life after high school. Students and instructors discuss pathways to personal and professional interests, which students then research independently. Research includes brainstorming project ideas and soliciting support from a family member, peer leader, teacher, community member, or expert in that field.
Through classwork, students create a definition of success and project timeline, as well as develop the skills to develop a presentation proposal. Teachers and peer leaders helped students shape their work.
Freshmen displayed their projects in the Winnacunnet dining hall on Nov. 20, the event return following a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Faculty and staff toured the projects, asking students about their passion for their topic.
“Freshman Seminar opens our students to a world of possibility, and aligns with our core mission to provide instruction that promotes critical thinking, innovation, and creativity,” Superintendent Nadeau said.”
Superintendent Nadeau and Principal McGowan thank Curriculum Coordinator Lauren Marsden and School Psychologist Christa D’Amico, who collaborated with faculty and staff on organizing the event.
