WOBURN 一 Principal Linda Riley is delighted to share that Altavesta Elementary School leaders and Woburn Public School administrators recently met with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Commissioner Jeffrey Riley to engage in discussions about fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for new students.
Commissioner Riley visited Altavesta Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 16. Principal Riley, Superintendent Matt Crowley, Assistant Superintendents Courtney Young and Maureen Ryan, City of Woburn Mayor Galvin, and members of the School Committee met with Commissioner Riley to discuss the initiatives and strategies implemented by Altavesta Elementary to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for students who are new to the community.
Discussions overviewed the school’s approach to supporting newcomer populations, addressing language barriers, and creating an atmosphere that promotes cultural understanding and acceptance.
During the visit, Commissioner Riley was able to meet with Altavesta kindergartners and witness firsthand the inclusive practices being implemented at the school, showcasing the dedication of Woburn educators to create a supportive and nurturing environment for the youngest members of the school community.
“We are thrilled to have had Commissioner Riley visit our school and witness the incredible work being done by our educators to create a welcoming and inclusive space for all students, especially those who are new to our community,” said Principal Riley. “Our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging for every student aligns with the values and goals set forth by the Massachusetts DESE, and we appreciate the opportunity to share our experiences and learn from one another.”
