MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Old Rochester Regional Junior High School Principal Silas Coellner are pleased to share the success of the 30th Annual Tri-Town Thanksgiving Banquet for Seniors.
The event was held on Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School. Over 170 seniors from the Tri-Town area attended. A full turkey dinner — including all the fixings and pie — was served by over 60 seventh- and eighth-grade student volunteers.
In addition to the meal, over 50 door prizes were available. The door prizes included holiday gift sets, small home items, gift cards and more.
Over 60 meals were also packaged and sent as to-go meals to Tri-Town and Wareham Council on Aging locations for seniors who were unable to attend the banquet in person.
Everything provided through the event was made possible by donations from the school community and local businesses and organizations. In addition to ORRJHS students, district staff members volunteered their time to coordinate and prepare for the event. School Committee members Frances-Feliz Kearns and Matthew Monteiro were also in attendance.
“We were excited to be able to hold the banquet once again this year after a three-year hiatus and pleased to have such a great turnout,” Principal Coellner said. “This is a wonderful event that gives our students the opportunity to give back to people in their community and we are always happy to see the large number of students that choose to participate.”
Added Superintendent Nelson, “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to preparing for this event over the past few months. We could not hold this banquet without the generosity of our community members and the support from our facilities staff, food service team and student volunteers.”
