Milan Village Unveils New Accessible Playground in Partnership with Crotched Mountain Foundation

MILAN – Superintendent David Backler and Principal Amy Huter are pleased to share that Milan Village School recently partnered with Crotched Mountain Foundation to unveil a new accessible playground for students and community members.

The new accessible playground, complete with adaptive and sensory-friendly equipment, opened at the start of the school year and isopen to the public.

The playground equipment includes a non-transfer swing for children who use wheelchairs, an adaptive climbing structure, a sensory chair, an accessibly whirl, and sensory musical equipment including a xylophone, bongo drums and windchimes.

Additionally, the playground also features a standard slide, swings, and other jungle gyms.

The playground was made possible by the Crotched Mountain Foundation which invested $50,000 to improve accessibility and inclusion for children with disabilities, by partnering with public school districts and community organizations.

“I want to thank the Crotched Mountain Foundation for partnering with us to create a inclusive experience for children for all ages and all abilities,” said Principal Amy Huter. “It was wonderful to see students smile and laugh as they engaged with their peers on this new playground. This accessible playground will expand the play experience for children in our community.

“I would like to thank Milan School and Crotched Mountain for getting some equipment that my son and so many others in the community will be able to enjoy for years to come,” says Jessica Savage, a parent of a student from Gorham. “To see his face light up that he’s able to swing just like his friends is heartwarming and nice that he now has a place to go play with his friends and not just sit on the sidelines.”
