UXBRIDGE — Superintendent Michael Baldassarre and Principal Michael Rubin are pleased to share that Uxbridge High School has been selected to participate in the One8 Foundation’s Applied Learning Leadership Discovery Program.

The One8 Applied Learning Leadership Discovery Program allows school leadership teams to explore strong applied learning practices and reflect on opportunities to bring these practices back to their own schools.

The program is centered around a set of energizing and thought-provoking school visits. School visits will take place from December to May and be dually focused, designed to spur creativity and new thinking and provide immediately implementable strategies to improve participants’ own Applied Learning programs.

Throughout the course of the program, Uxbridge High School leadership will observe innovative Applied Learning in action during local and national school visits, observe practices to be implemented into Uxbridge High School, consider how to incorporate Applied Learning into Uxbridge’s instructional vision and reflect on strategies to improve Applied Learning at Uxbridge High School through guided debrief sessions.

Applied Learning inspires students with innovative, engaging ways to approach core subject matter. Through collaboration and iteration, learners apply knowledge to discover the answers to real-world questions, developing lasting comprehension by learning how to solve complex problems and why what they learn is relevant in everyday life.

“We are constantly looking for ways to infuse progressive, hands-on, and relevant learning experiences for our students,” said Principal Rubin. “Opportunities to observe these innovative practices taking place either around the state or nation and to make them compatible with our already robust offerings bring immediate benefit to our staff and students alike.”

Uxbridge High School currently offers a variety of programs that infuse applied learning across all areas of the curriculum including eighth-grade civics projects, Project Lead the Way engineering, computer science, biomedical science programs, OpenSciEd grade 8 curriculum, incorporating Project Lead the Way pilot to Algebra I, and a robust information science and digital media program, as well as a program articulated for higher education credit in manufacturing and child development.
