Committee to Discuss Dighton During the Revolutionary Era, Plan 250th Themed Events for 2026
DIGHTON — Historical Commission Chairwoman Patricia Gailes and Board of Selectmen Chairman Peter Caron, together with the members of the Historical Commission and Board of Selectmen, are pleased to announce that the Town of Dighton is preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America in 2026.
America’s 250th anniversary will be celebrated on July 4, 2026. Although celebrations are about three years away, the Town of Dighton is starting to plan its celebrations and recognition events.
A committee will be appointed to organize and plan town events to honor and connect with Dighton’s history. Committee members will include representatives from the Dighton Historical Commission, Dighton Historical Society, Veterans Department, Dighton Community Church and Board of Selectmen. A local reenactor from the Minutemen, a town department head, the town historian and three at-large community members as appointed by the Board of Selectmen will also serve on the committee.
The committee will guide the Town of Dighton in its efforts to recognize and share how the people, events and ideas of the Revolutionary era included the people of Dighton.
Although no battles were fought in Dighton, Dighton’s people were discussing the many issues facing the colonists and participating in events that led up to the Revolutionary War and during the War.
The theme “Power of Place” will guide the committee in its planning and discussions will involve what was happening in Dighton during the Revolutionary Era, how Dighton has changed over time, and more.
“I am excited to embark on the journey of planning and celebrating the remarkable 250th anniversary of America,” said Historical Commission Chairwoman Patricia Gailes. “This historic milestone is an opportunity to honor Dighton’s past, embrace our present, and shape a future filled with unity, progress, and promise.”
