The Salvation Army to Honor Veterans in Attendance
PLYMOUTH — The Salvation Army in Plymouth is ready to kick off its iconic Red Kettle fundraising campaign for 2023 at its second annual Red Kettle Kickoff event on Tuesday evening. During the event, The Salvation Army in Plymouth will share the spirit of community and collaboration to support local children and families heading into this Christmas season.
WHEN:
Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 4-5:30 p.m.
Rain date on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 4-5:30 p.m.
WHERE:
Plymouth Town Hall Lawn, 26 Court St.
WHAT:
The Salvation Army will kick off the non-profit’s iconic Red Kettle fundraising campaign in Plymouth, bringing together businesses, community partners and others for a fun evening of music, hot chocolate, and more.
Funds collected at Christmas and throughout the year are essential to The Salvation Army’s seasonal and yearly relief efforts. The Salvation Army anticipates more families than ever will seek holiday help this year, given rising inflation and poverty rates. Giving to red kettles is a holiday tradition for many, but people are often surprised to learn that the money raised stays directly in the community and will benefit neighbors in need.
In 2022, The Salvation Army in Plymouth provided toys, clothing and winter supplies to 700 Plymouth-area children and distributed 225 food gift baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Salvation Army in Plymouth hopes to provide even more assistance than what was provided last year through this year’s Red Kettle Campaign. The Salvation Army Plymouth Corps’ season of giving will begin at this year’s kickoff event.
This year’s event will feature the North River Brass Quintet performing holiday favorites prior to opening remarks given by Plymouth Corps Envoy Anne Rich. Envoy Rich will introduce Director of North River Brass Quintet Tim Mauri ahead of a sing-along. Owner of WATD Ed Perry will be this year’s special guest.
Plymouth’s Director of Veterans Services Roxanne Witbeck will also honor veterans in attendance.
State Rep. Matt Muratore will drop the first ceremonial coin into the kettle in recognition of funds collected at Christmas and throughout the year that are essential to The Salvation Army’s seasonal and yearly relief efforts.
“Our Red Kettle Kick Off event at the Plymouth Town Hall Lawn helps kick of the holidays and the season of giving while celebrating community in America’s hometown,” said Envoy Anne Rich, The Salvation Army Plymouth Corps. “We greatly look forward to coming together in honor of a campaign where every dollar donated makes a difference in your local community. As part of this year’s event, we will also be honoring the dedicated service of our veterans in the Plymouth area.”
Families in need count on donor support to have a joyous holiday season. During a typical year, anywhere from 40-60% of funds raised by The Salvation Army come directly from public and individual contributions. Opportunities for individuals and businesses to show their support of The Salvation Army this holiday season are still available.
