EAST BRIDGEWATER — Town Administrator Charles Seelig is pleased to share that the Town of East Bridgewater has been awarded grant funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to support the town’s sanitary sewer project.
The $3 million grant will provide sewer system service to support commercial and industrial development, including a 400,000 square foot warehouse, along Route 18/North Bedford Street which will connect to the City of Brockton’s sanitary sewer system, generating 400 jobs and $47.9 million in private investment.
This project will also include obtaining easements to provide access to over 30 acres of land owned by the town for use by the town including possible playing fields and recreational areas.
Bidding for the project is expected to occur before the end of 2023 with construction beginning in early 2024 and completion expected in the spring of 2025.
The $3 million grant is in addition to the $4 million grant awarded to the Town of East Bridgewater in 2022 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through its Community One Stop for Growth Program.
The estimated cost of the sanitary sewer project is $11 million. These two grants will cover a majority of the costs for this project and will significantly decrease the amount of money that the Town of East Bridgewater will need to borrow.
This project is the result of a joint effort by the Old Colony Planning Council, especially Executive Director Mary Waldron and Director of Economic Resiliency and Housing Equity Don Sullivan, the City of Brockton, including Mayor Robert F. Sullivan, Chief of Staff Sydne Marrow, and Chief Financial Officer Troy Clarkson, the town’s federal and state legislative delegations, the staff from Weston & Sampson including Francis Yanuskiewicz and Steve Pedersen, East Bridgewater Department of Public Works Director John Haines, Water & Sewer Superintendent Jason Trepanier, the East Bridgewater Selectboard, Chair Carole Julius, Vice-Chair David Sheedy, and Clerk Peter Spagone, Jr., and Town Administrator Charlie Seelig.
“It is critical that Massachusetts has a safe, durable, and resilient water infrastructure system,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren. “This $3 million grant is wonderful news for East Bridgewater, and I’ll keep fighting to ensure that the federal government is a strong partner for communities across our Commonwealth.”
