ENFIELD — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle and Principal Jamie Winny share that students learned the importance of fire safety through Enfield Village School’s annual Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest.
Each October students learned important lessons as part of this year’s Fire Prevention Week’s theme: “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”
Through the District’s collaboration with the Enfield Fire Department, students learned safety tips about cooking, how to safely use appliances, and most importantly to leave the house and call 9-1-1 if there is a fire. Members of the Enfield Fire Department reinforced these lessons during classroom visits.
Contest winners were Max Tompkins, Kindergarten; Oliver Albert, Grade 1; Annelisa West, Grade 2; Sophia Brown, Grade 3; and Harper Irwin, Grade 4. The winning entries highlighted important tips such as always being supervised by an adult, and to stay three feet from an open flame.
The winning students and their families road to school in a fire engine with their parents and participated in a special Touch-a-Truck event.
Fire Prevention Week is organized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and has been recognized since 1922. The goal of Fire Prevention Week is to educate the public about simple but important ways they can keep themselves and those they live with safe.
“It was exciting to see how much effort our students put into their posters, and how they spotlighted the safety tips,” said Superintendent Isabelle. “We appreciate our collaboration with the Enfield Fire Department in ensuring our students stay safe.”
