NARRAGANSETT — Chief Sean Corrigan and the Narragansett Police Department would like to encourage residents to join the department’s Camera Registration Program (CRP).
The Camera Registration Program enables residents and business owners to voluntarily register the locations of their video surveillance systems with the Narragansett Police Department.
When a crime occurs, officers will be able to identify registered cameras near the location of the incident and enlist the assistance of the community in gathering video evidence to follow up on leads. Registrants may be asked to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time. If necessary, police may request a copy of any video captured by the camera, which can assist in the investigation of a crime.
Registration is entirely voluntary and there is no cost associated. Registering a camera does not provide Narragansett Police with direct access to the camera. Personal information will be kept confidential by the department unless subject to disclosure by court order. Information will only be accessed by law enforcement who are investigating a crime in the vicinity of the camera’s location.
Registration can also be deleted anytime by notifying the department’s detective division.
“Home and business surveillance systems are becoming more and more common. These simple tools can provide our detectives with valuable investigative evidence and allow community members to participate in the safety of their own neighborhoods,” Chief Corrigan said.
Those who wish to register their camera can click here to access the Camera Registration Form. Any questions about the program can be directed to the Narragansett Police Department’s Detective Division at crp@narragansettri.gov.
