RYE — Chief Kevin Walsh and the Rye Police Department would like to share beach rules and safety tips with residents ahead of summer.
The Town of Rye is home to several local and state beaches, and the Rye Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors of beach rules, regulations, and safety tips as warmer weather approaches.
Town of Rye Beach Rules
- Permit parking. Permits are only available to Rye residents and property owners. Beach visitors are required to park in a legal parking space.
- Glass containers are prohibited on the beach or within beach property. (Town Ordinance 12)
- Remain alert while driving. Rye Police and New Hampshire State Police take notice and enforce all rules of the road. Drive safely.
- Fireworks use is prohibited. (Town Ordinance 34)
- Dispose trash in a marked bin or container. Littering, discarding, or dumping on public or beach property is illegal. Violations could result in a summons to court.
- Rye residents can apply for a fire cooking permit through the Rye Fire Department.
- Bonfires are not allowed on the beach.
- Alcohol consumption of any kind is prohibited on the beach and on public property. All violations will result in a summons to court.
- Dogs are not permitted on Town beaches any Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., or Sunday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. No dogs are allowed on State parks property during operational season.
- Dogs shall be under control at all times. (Town Ordinance 36)
- Owners are responsible for picking up their dog’s waste. Failure to do so will result in a fine.
The Rye Police Department would also like to share the following beach safety tips from the American Red Cross:
- Always wear sunblock and never sit directly in the sun.
- Wear sunglasses, hats, and other protective clothing to help prevent against sunburns or sun poisoning.
- Remember to hydrate.
- Never swim alone.
- Adhere to posted weather warnings.
- Make sure there is a lifeguard on duty before you swim, and look for updates on lifeguard duty hours.
Additionally, residents and visitors are encouraged to review Rye beach information before swimming.
