CHATHAM – The Chatham Airport Commission is pleased to announce that the Airport’s Open House, Community Day and Fly-In will return in 2023 and invites the community to join in the family-friendly celebration.
The Open House will take place on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Airport, 240 George Ryder Road. The event is free and open to all.
The event, with a theme of “A Day of Trains, Planes, and Automobiles,” offers something for all interests and ages.
Numerous antique and military aircraft will be on display. Attendees can learn more about community organizations serving Chatham and Cape Cod at a number of tables. The Nauset Model Railroad Club will have a working display, while local vintage car owners will show off their rides.
A children’s area will include face painting and other activities. New to the Open House this year is a “Touch-a-Truck” event featuring equipment from the Chatham Department of Public Works.
There will be live music throughout the Open House. Lunch options include food trucks and at the popular Hangar B restaurant.
“The Open House is great exposure for both aviation and everything Chatham,” said Airport Manager Tim Howard, who organizes the event with his wife, Chris. “My favorite thing is seeing the Airport busy with so many people. The day is a great confluence of airport and agencies, and I love people seeing the Airport as an asset to the community.”
Chatham Airport wishes to recognize this year’s sponsors: Gale Associates, Chatham Bars Inn, Planesense, the Chatham Airport Commission, Eastward Companies, Mr. Handyman, and Friends of the Chatham Airport.
“The Annual Open House at Chatham Municipal Airport is one of the many ways that Airport Manager Tim Howard and his family give back to the community,” Commission Chairman Huntley Harrison said. “This celebration of ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ has something for everyone, and it is always a crowd-pleaser. The Airport Commission is especially proud to support this event.”
