Norwood Public Schools Awarded Grant Funding to Implement Spatial-Temporal Math Program

NORWOOD — Superintendent David Thomson and Principal Michael Baulier are pleased to share that the George F. Willett Early Childhood Center has received grant funding that will be used to integrate a new educational software program.

The award includes more than $40,000 in licensing, professional development and support fees over three years, which will be used to implement Spatial-Temporal (ST) Math programs.

The grant was awarded by the One8 Foundation, as part of the Mass STEM Hub program, which partners with Massachusetts schools to implement high-quality, applied learning programs.

As part of the program, Norwood Public Schools also will be connected to a network of other schools across Massachusetts that are also implementing ST Math and sharing best practices.

“On behalf of the entire district, I would like to extend my gratitude to the One8 Foundation for this generous grant and to our Norwood teachers and staff who have made this possible,” said Superintendent Thomson.

Principal Baulier, district champion Laura Donnelly, and three ST Math school champions, including Kindergarten teachers Katie Lambrenos, Colleen Reynolds and Special Education Teacher Daisha Sullivan, will work closely with the programs ST Math Education Success Manager to support the implementation of the program.

ST Math is a PreK-8 visual instructional program that leverages the brain’s innate spatial-temporal reasoning ability to solve mathematical problems. ST Math’s approach provides students with equitable access to learning through challenging puzzles, non-routine problem-solving and formative feedback. The program starts by teaching the foundational concepts visually, then connects the ideas to the symbols, language and robust discourse.
