Norwood Public Schools Receives Best Communities for Music Education Award

NORWOOD — Superintendent David Thomson and Director of Fine Arts Jeffrey Kerr are pleased to announce that the Norwood Public Schools recently received The Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award.

The Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award, presented by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education.

Norwood Public Schools was recognized by the NAMM Foundation as a way to acknowledge and celebrate the district’s innovation to develop a stronger presence for music education on campus and in the lives of students.

To qualify, districts answer questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

“On behalf of the entire district, I want to thank the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation for this incredible honor,” said Superintendent Thomson. “This honor was made possible by the staff members and fine arts professionals in our district who are devoted to providing our students with an excellent music education.”

Throughout the school year, the Norwood Parents Music Association offers essential support at district events and provides scholarship opportunities to graduating senior musicians.

This year Norwood Public Schools was one of 830 school districts across the nation, and just 16 in Massachusetts, to be named to the BCME list

“I am thrilled that our district has been chosen for this award,” said Director of Fine Arts Jeffrey Kerr. “It has brought me great joy to work with a team of professionals here at Norwood Public Schools who are passionate about the fine arts and who make it an important and essential part of the standard curriculum.”
