HULL —  Superintendent Judith Kuehn and Principal Michael Kynbel are pleased to share that Hull High School hosted a successful career fair earlier this month.

The career fair was held on Tuesday, April 11, in the Hull High School Gymnasium. During the event, sophomore students had the opportunity to connect with over 18 professionals representing a variety of career paths. Their industries included education, science, law enforcement, journalism, communications, marketing, health science and more.

“This year’s career fair served as a great opportunity for our students to begin exploring different career paths and network with industry professionals,” said Superintendent Kuehn. “I was pleased to see the wide range of industries represented.”

In preparation for the event, students engaged in advisory lessons throughout the fall and winter months. Areas of focus included, how to fill out a job application, how to create a resume using Naviance, interview skills training, how to answer open-ended interview questions, dressing for success, and verbal and non-verbal professionalism.

The event began with welcoming remarks made by Principal Knybel and the introduction of career experts, followed by Career Journey presentations. During this time, the career experts shared their educational and employment backgrounds and gave insight into their daily experiences in their current positions.

Following presentations, career experts conducted mock interviews with students interested in entry-level positions at their companies. After each interview, experts completed evaluation forms to be returned to students, offering them feedback to strengthen their future interview and job search skills.

To conclude the event, Principal Knybel welcomed each career expert to the podium to recognize each student that was “mock-hired” by the career expert. This gave the Career Expert time to review their process of hiring and gave meaningful feedback to all students.

The students who received recognition and were “mock-hired” included:

  • Owen Bechtold
  • Zoila Bermejo
  • Elsie Harper
  • Grace Naylor
  • Marie Marois
  • Justin Foley
  • Tallula Clancy
  • Kaelyn Burke
  • Damien Lindsey
  •  Fallon Ryan
  •  Ella Stolt
  • Lilly Copenheaver- Smith
  • Boden Ciulla-Sestito
  • Rebecca Timins
  •  Luke Dunham
  •  Nicholas McDonald
  •  Shane McDonough
  •  Shane Grier

Students then completed self-reflection sheets as well as handwritten thank-you notes for their interviewing career professionals. Sophomore students provided feedback about the event saying the career fair was an exciting experience that helped them gain a new perspective on work.

“I want to thank all the career professionals who attended this year’s career fair and provided our students with a wealth of knowledge,” said Principal Knybel.”It was truly a great learning experience for all who attended.”
