GORHAM – Superintendent David Backler and Principal Jen Corrigan are pleased to announce that the Dance of Hope youth group recently visited Gorham Middle High School.
Dance of Hope, a youth group from Uganda with the mission of connecting students to their community through music, visited Gorham Middle High School on Wednesday, April 5.
Students began the day with a school-wide assembly where Dance of Hope shared traditional music and dances from Uganda. Students then broke into smaller groups and participated in interactive activities including singing, drumming, and dance workshops run by Dance of Hope members.
Gorham Middle High School students ended the day by joining Dance of Hope in a performance for Ed Fenn Elementary students.
During their visit, students had the opportunity to learn more about a culture that may be different from their own through interactive and engaging activities and performances.
“Dance of Hope is a wonderful organization that brings children and students together through music and dance, and it was really amazing to have them join us for the day,” said Science Teacher and Advisory Coordinator, Sarah Clemmitt, who organized the event. “Their visit gave students an opportunity to learn about different traditions, cultures, and people through a fun-filled day of interacting with peers.”
“I want to thank the Dance of Hope youth group for visiting our students and letting us be part of this great experience,” said Principal Jen Corrigan. “This event allowed students to foster relationships and learn about various kinds of music that exist around the world. We hope we can have more events like these in the future as students were incredibly engaged and eager to learn more.”
