TURNERS FALLS 一 Superintendent Richard Martin is pleased to share that the Massachusetts Honey Queen, Caroline Canterbury, visited with Franklin County Technical School students.

On Thursday, March 23, Canterbury spoke to landscaping and horticulture freshmen during a presentation in the library. Canterbury spoke to students about beekeeping, honey bees and how students could get involved with apiculture — the technical term for beekeeping.

Canterbury, a student at Greenfield Community College, comes from a family of beekeepers and was named Honey Queen in October by the Massachusetts Beekeeping Association.

During her visit, students were able to sample local honey and play games, one of which was to see who could put on a beekeeper’s suit the fastest.

“The students were thrilled to be able to learn more about the intricacies of beekeeping and how vital bees are to our ecosystem,” Franklin Librarian Wally Keniston said. “We were so lucky to have Caroline join us and lend her expertise on beekeeping to our students for the day.”
