TAUNTON — Superintendent Alexandre Magalhaes and Athletic Director Mark Lebeda are pleased to announce that Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School student Ryan Barnes signed a letter of intent to play football at the University of New England (UNE).

On Wednesday, March 8, Barnes committed to playing for UNE in Biddeford, Maine, after being recruited by multiple colleges. Barnes was recruited as a running back for the UNE Nor’easters after having a record-breaking season his senior year.

Barnes had over 1,200 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns in only seven games. He was on pace to break the school touchdown record but suffered a season-ending injury in the first round of the playoffs.

“Ryan had a phenomenal senior season,” Athletic Director Lebeda said. “UNE’s football program is relatively new and they were looking for a running back to build their team around; they really found a star in Ryan.”

Barnes was voted player of the week three times this season, was named player of the year and the MVP of the Mayflower Athletic Conference, Team MVP and Bristol-Plymouth’s Athlete of the Season for fall 2022.
