GORHAM – Superintendent David Backler and and Principal Jen Corrigan are pleased to share that Gorham Middle High School successfully hosted the Winter Carnival.
The Winter Carnival was a week-long competition between Grades 9 through 12 that began on Monday March 6.
Each grade competed in various activities after school Monday through Thursday with a full day of activities on Friday to conclude the week.
The Winter Carnival is run by the Gorham Middle High School Student Council. Each Student Council member was assigned an activity and tasked with reviewing rules, completing a bracket of participating students, managing students, and finding referees and judges for the activities.
Activities included floor hockey, basketball, balloon popping relay races, tug-of-war, plunger races, skits, cake decorating, dodgeball and more. Winners of each activity were awarded points throughout the week and the grade with the most points at the end of the week was crowned the Winter Carnival Winners.
On Friday, students were given class shirts for this year’s Winter Carnival. Shirt colors were picked by each class and were designed by the Student Council.
The Sophomore Class won this this year’s Winter Carnival. The Junior Class came in second, the Senior Class came in third, and the Freshman Class came in fourth.
Class advisors from each grade helped coordinate the carnival. The class advisors are made up of Gorham Middle High teachers and include ninth grade advisor Dan Herrick, tenth grade advisor Matt Saladino, eleventh grade advisors Misty Strevig and Maranda Demers, and twelfth grade advisor Rob Hamel.
“It as a great week of fun activities for our students,” said Jen Corrigan. “It was wonderful to see our students come together as teams and support each other during their competitions and activities. I also want to acknowledge Student Council members and the class advisors for truly coordinating a fun-filled event for everyone to participate in.”
“I am so proud of our students for their sportsmanship and collaboration with their peers during challenges and activities,” said Student Council Advisor Lee Anne Lapointe. “Our Student Council members truly went above and beyond to help students and peers feel included. The Winter Carnival is a great way for students in every grade to foster relations with one another in a interactive and fun way.”
