Bourne Public Schools to Host KidFest for Preschool Students and Families in March

BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou and Bourne Public School’s Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) Coordinator Maura Dankert are excited to announce that Bournedale Elementary School will be hosting KidFest next month, an event for families and caregivers to learn about what preschool and childcare options and other resources are available to them in Bourne.

KidFest will be held on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bournedale Elementary School.

At KidFest, parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of community resources available to them, including childcare and preschool options, extracurricular and library activities, area playgrounds and local food security programs.

Additionally, KidFest will feature hands-on activities for the children, including a science demonstration on air pressure, hosted by STEM education organization Mad Science.

KidFest is being made possible by the Family Leadership Program, which is funded by the Department of Early Education and Care, and by the organization Families First

CFCE Coordinator Dankert recently applied for the district to take part in the Family Leadership Program, which focuses on the development and support of family leader skills, and promoting involvement and engagement within the community. Dankert was assisted by family leaders, Annie Gloski and Larissa Bussiere, who have been instrumental in the implementation of the program and through their work helping to organize KidFest.

“I would like to thank the Families First organization, and the Department of Early Education and Care for their support in helping us put on this fantastic event,” said Superintendent Quinlan-Zhou. “It’s so important for caregivers of young children to know what options they have available to them and this event is a great way to learn about the many different programs right here in Bourne. KidFest also ties in directly to our district’s Building Bridges community outreach program aimed at increasing family engagement and helping our students feel connected to the Bourne community.”

“We are extremely grateful for our community partners and our school staff for helping to coordinate this event,” Dankert said. “I encourage members of our community with preschool-aged students to attend what is sure to be an informative and fun family-friendly event.”
