WOBURN – The School Committee and Mayor Scott Galvin share the following statement regarding ongoing contract negotiations with the Woburn Teachers Association:

“While negotiations between the School Committee, Mayor Scott Galvin and the Woburn Teachers Association continued today, Feb. 3, an agreement on a successor contract still has not been reached.

“On Friday, Middlesex Superior Court Judge Camille Sarrouf issued a preliminary injunction ordering the Massachusetts Teachers Association to comply with a Jan. 27 order of the Department of Labor Relations. Judge Sarrouf cited Supreme Judicial Court precedent in her decision. She ordered:

  1. That the MTA fully comply with the Jan. 27 DLR ruling;
  2. That the MTA immediately cease and desist from inducing, encouraging, or condoning any strike, work stoppage, slowdown, or other withholding of services as it relates to the WTA.
  3. That the MTA shall not permit its officers to encourage, condone or induce any strike, work stoppage, slowdown or other withholding of services.
  4. That the MTA, no later than Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 p.m., publicly state that the WTA’s strike vote, and its stoppage, slowdown, or other withholding of services is illegal and must cease; and that WTA members must immediately return to work.
  5. That the MTA and its officers notify the DLR in writing of the steps taken to comply with the order by no later than Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m.

“We sincerely hope to come to a mutual agreement so that our students can return to learning.

“As always, we remain committed to negotiating in good faith and coming to an agreement that is fair to our students, faculty, and community as a whole.”

Judge Sarrouf’s ruling may be found here.
