WOBURN – The Woburn School Committee and Mayor Scott Galvin wish to provide the following statement about ongoing negotiations with the Woburn Teachers Association:
“Negotiations between the School Committee and Woburn Teachers Association continued on Tuesday, but ended once again this evening without agreement on a successor contract.
“The School Committee today offered to significantly increase compensation for all paraprofessionals in the next three years, and allow them access to the City’s generous benefits package.
“Despite this new offer, and our continued efforts to act in good faith, we have been informed that Woburn teachers will continue their strike and not report to work on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Therefore, classes have been cancelled for a third day.
“This illegal action by teachers and the union defies orders to return to work by both the Commonwealth Employment Relations Board and a Superior Court judge. We strongly urge teachers to abandon this harmful tactic, return to their classes, and act in the best interests of the continued education of our students.”
