MERRIMAC – Superintendent Justin Bartholomew and Principal Stephanie Dembro are pleased to share that Donaghue School students in Grades 3-6 recently participated in a hands-on technical education experience, in partnership with Code and Circuit and sponsored by the Merrimac PTO.

The Donaghue School partnered with Code and Circuit of Amesbury, a business dedicated to expanding youth interest in computers and robotics, to host a technical education experience in December.

Students participated in a variety of hands-on activities. Each activity was designed to encourage students’ creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.

As part of the experience, students listened to a presentation by Code and Circuit representative Dr. Lori Towle. They also were able to interact with SPOT, Boston Dynamics’ robot dog, while learning about the ways these robots are used to help keep people safe and included through their coding.

“This in-school field trip was a great way for the kids to tap into their creativity,” said Principal Dembro. “The experience was not only fun, but it empowered students to engage in brain-based learning and potentially help them discover a passion for technology.”
