ACTON — The Town of Acton and the Planning Division will open house sessions later this month to solicit public input about the future vision of South Acton.
The Town will host four open house sessions on the South Acton Vision & Action Plan at the Acton Memorial Library, 486 Main St.:
- Monday, Jan. 23, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Jan. 24. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Jan. 24, 5-7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Town established a community engagement process to develop a vision for the South Acton, and to assess how the Town can comply with new state regulations for multi-family housing in communities with MBTA service. Acton has until Dec. 31, 2024 to adopt zoning changes that comply with these regulations.
During the forums, representatives of the Town will share South Acton’s history and offer information about existing conditions. They also will share results from the community visioning survey completed by almost 1,000 Acton residents and others who regularly visit South Acton.
The Town intends to capitalize on South Acton’s commuter rail station, historic buildings, walkability, and considerable conservation and recreation land, and consider zoning changes that encourage both high-quality mixed-use and multifamily projects and commercial development that meets the community’s needs and goals established through past community plans.
This project is funded through the Commonwealth’s Community One Stop for Growth and MAPC’s District Local Technical Assistance (DLTA).
