Stoneham Residents Invited to Upcoming Community Forum and Town Meeting Vote on High School Project

STONEHAM – The Stoneham School Building Committee wishes to remind residents of two upcoming milestones as it seeks to progress the new Stoneham High School building project.

As part of their work to advance the project, the SSBC will host a community forum on Jan. 5 ahead of a formal request to Town Meeting for additional funding to close a gap created by unexpected market challenges.

The SSBC has received Consigli Construction’s Guaranteed Maximum Price for the project, which amounts to $24,990,257 more than the amount that was initially anticipated and approved at Town Meeting in 2021. This price includes the return of five bid-alternate elements which the committee has identified as crucial to delivering a state-of-the-art facility for generations of future students.

The overage is driven by current economic factors, including labor market challenges, supply chain impacts and resulting product acquisition delays and product price increases.

The SSBC will in turn ask for Town Meeting to authorize the additional funding  to move the project forward.

The SSBC will hold a forum on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Stoneham Central Middle School in the Media Center on the second floor. At that time, the Committee will review the project budget along with the rationale for the request to approve additional funding and to hear and respond to community comment.

The Forum can be attended live using this link – https:/meet.goto.com/876647293

or by calling (571) 317-3122 and entering Access Code 876-647-293. The Forum can also be viewed on Stoneham Community Access Television live or by using this link –

The Massachusetts School Building Authority has committed reimbursing the town for $49 million of the $214.5 million project.
