BEDFORD — Chief John C. Fisher and the Bedford Police Department report that they are participating in the Home Base No Shave challenge to raise awareness and funding of the invisible wounds suffered by our nation’s veterans.
Throughout November, members of the Bedford Police Department who contribute or raise $100 to the Home Base No Shave initiative will be exempted from the department’s usual facial hair restrictions.
Home Base No Shave, which was formerly known as No Shave November, was created in 2015. It has raised more than $1.2 million to date to fund critical mental health and brain injury care. More than 130 police departments across the country, representing more than 2,500 first responders, have participated.
“I’m proud that our department has joined forces with Home Base to help raise funds and awareness of the invisible wounds of war suffered by so many of our veterans,” said Chief Fisher. “We have lost more than 114,000 Veterans to suicide since September 11, 2001, and here today – 21 years later – we are still losing 20 Veterans each day. Please consider supporting our efforts to prevent Veteran suicides by donating to the cause.
