Call Box Directly Connects Caller to 911 Services
COHASSET — Cohasset Town Manager Chris Senior, Police Chief William Quigley, Fire Chief John Dockray, Emergency Management Director Glenn Pratt and Chief Information Officer Ron Menard invite members of the public and local media to Wadleigh Park for a behind-the-scenes look and demonstration of the new Emergency Call Box that has been recently installed at Wadleigh Park.
WHEN:
Thursday, Sept. 29 beginning at 10 a.m.
If there is inclement weather, the event will be postponed until further notice.
WHERE:
Wadleigh Park, directly across the street from Black Rock Beach
WHO:
- Town Manager Senior
- Cohasset Police Chief Quigley
- Cohasset Fire Chief Dockray
- Director of Cohasset Emergency Management Agency Pratt
WHAT:
At the event, attendees will have the opportunity to see a demonstration of how to use the new emergency call box and ask questions.
The satellite call box is installed directly across the street from Black Rock Beach in the nearby Wadleigh Park. The box has a large sign and light on it along with it being yellow for everyone to see.
The new call box allows anyone to pick up the attached phone and be directly connected to the South Shore Regional Communications Center, the town’s 911 dispatching service. There are instructions on how to use the phone located inside the box. The call box is a major public safety upgrade as the area lacks cellular service resulting in difficulty when making phone calls.
“This is a major public safety upgrade and I want to thank everyone who helped make this happen including the Select Board, Chief Dockray, Chief Quigley, Director Pratt and Chief Information Officer Ron Menard,” said Town Manager Senior.
Added Chief Quigley, “There have been a few incidents in the past where not having adequate cell service has caused a delay in response time. Having this emergency call box adds quite literally another lifesaving tool to help public safety agencies keep everyone safe.”
Town officials including Town Manager Senior, Chief Dockray, Chief Quigley and Director Pratt say keeping everyone safe is a top priority in Cohasset.
The emergency call box is fully operational. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the Cohasset Police Department at 781-383-1212.
