Goodnow Library Invites Community Members to Attend Climate Preparedness Week Events

SUDBURY – Library Director Esmé Green would like to invite community members to attend Goodnow Library’s Climate Preparedness Week events, being held in partnership with the Goodnow Library Foundation.

SUDBURY – Library Director Esmé Green would like to invite community members to attend Goodnow Library’s Climate Preparedness Week events, being held in partnership with the Goodnow Library Foundation.

Communities Responding to Extreme Weather’s (CREW) Climate Preparedness Week, marked from Sept. 24-30 each year, is a period of learning, service, and actions to better prepare communities for extreme weather and the effects of climate change. 

Community members can visit the Library throughout the week to explore climate preparedness displays in the lobby, check out interesting books, and attend events. Attendees can pick up free milkweed seeds to plant at home to support endangered monarch butterflies, and can also enter a raffle for the chance to win a fun prize. 

Goodnow Library’s Climate Preparedness Week events include: 

  • NOW Open Lab Hours – Visible Mending: “Mend the World, Don’t Trash It” will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Sara Sherman NOW Lab. Attendees will learn basic skills of visible mending, a form of creative clothing repair based on the Japanese art of Sashiko stitching. This event is recommended for adults and children over the age of 11. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Maker Mondays: Recycled T-Shirt Bags will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, from 4-5 p.m. in the Sara Sherman NOW Lab. Attendees are asked to bring an old t-shirt they are willing to upcycle. All other supplies will be provided, and projects will take 60 minutes to complete. This event is open to children in Grades 6 and up.

  • Climate Week Crafternoon will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, from 4-4:45 p.m. in the Community Room. Kids in Grades K and up will meet with Miss Julie to read “We are Water Protectors” by Carole Lindstrom, illustrated by Michaela Goade. A coffee filter painting activity will take place after the reading. No registration is required for this event. 
  • Boomerang Bags in the NOW Lab will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6-8 p.m. in the Sara Sherman NOW Lab. Attendees will join Boomerang Bags Sudbury to trace, cut, and sew donated fabric into reusable bags. This event is open to adults and children ages 11 and up. No registration is required for this event.

Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Children’s programs are mask-friendly.
