Bourne Public Schools Recognizes Staff and Community Volunteers for Supporting Families Housed at Joint Base Cape Cod

BOURNE — The following is a statement from Bourne Public Schools Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou:

“The Bourne Public Schools would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to the entire Bourne community for coming together to support the families who recently arrived from Martha’s Vineyard.  At this time, we have been informed that no children will be placed in the Bourne Public Schools.

BPS administrators met with state and Joint Base Cape Cod representatives multiple times over the past few days, and community volunteers offered services to the families in a variety of ways, including those needing translation services and other immediate needs. 

Of note, we held a donation drive on Monday, Sept. 19 at all of our schools and have received substantial amounts of toddler and children’s clothing, adult clothing, toiletries and hygiene products, shoes, luggage and more. All items were picked up from the schools and delivered to the Base to directly support the families.

The amazing generosity of our community volunteers and school staff was much appreciated by the families who were temporarily housed at the base. 

The Bourne Public Schools remains ready, willing and able to provide a public school education to these children should the need arise. While placements outside of Bourne have been secured for the children, we nonetheless want to acknowledge those in our community who made these families feel welcomed and supported. We are confident that the districts welcoming these families will do so warmly and will be providing them with a safe and high-quality education.”
