BURLINGTON – The Burlington Police Department, in partnership with Burlington Mall, wishes to announce that the 51st annual Safety Town will be held next month.
Safety Town is a child-sized town with buildings, crosswalks, street signs, and traffic signals. Area children entering kindergarten or first grade will be taught about pedestrian, traffic, and bus safety. Burlington Police Officers will teach children about proper conduct, and the correct way to get on and off school buses.
Safety Town will hold classes on Aug. 16, 17, and 18, at both 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Classes are limited to the first 20 children registered.
The Department and Mall also will host a special Caring Safety Town, designed for children on the autism spectrum, on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 8 a.m. Caring Safety Town is open to the first 10 children registered.
Parents are asked to make sure their child is wearing sneakers and brings a bicycle helmet.
“The Department is pleased to be able to offer Safety Town again this year in partnership with Burlington Mall,” said Police Chief Thomas P. Browne. “By teaching children how to be safe on the road, we can ensure that they have the tools to make good decisions, whether they’re riding their bikes or on the school bus.”
Safety Town classes are held at The Village at Burlington Mall, 85 Middlesex Turnpike.
“Burlington Mall is excited to host Safety Town and Caring Safety Town for families as young children get ready for school,” said Sheila Hennessy, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Burlington Mall. “We are extremely grateful our 51-year-plus partnership with Burlington Police Department for this important community program.”
Safety Town is open to all incoming kindergarteners and first graders. Interested parents may sign up their child for Safety Town, here, or for Caring Safety Town, here.
